The KTown Ladies have had a fun and busy summer so far – like all of you, we are so enjoying being able to finally reconnect with our friends and neighbors this year! For anyone that may not know us yet, KTL is a neighborhood social club with the mission of improving the lives of Kensington residents through social interaction, neighborhood sharing and community support. We’re thrilled to have been able to get back to advancing that mission this summer!
The KTown Ladies kicked off summer in June with a great (and tough!) workout at a Sweat ‘n Sip class led by Town of Kensington resident and bootcamp instructor Angela Decker. While we had originally planned to exercise outside in Kensington Heights Park, when thunderstorms loomed, Mayor Tracey came to the rescue by offering up Town Hall as a backup location, saving us from both storms and cicadas!
Last month, the KTown Ladies celebrated France’s national holiday, Bastille Day, with a Liberation and Libations Sip ‘n Shop at Kensington’s own French bookstore, Bonjour Books, on July 14. We toasted our neighbors in the Howard Avenue shop with French champagne and snacks while browsing the fun and eclectic selection of books and language learning resources, home décor and stationery.
The KTown Ladies were also excited to announce last month our new partnership with the Jubilee Association of Maryland to advance our charitable efforts in 2021. Jubilee is located in Kensington and provides adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities with high-quality residential support services that promote independence, helps them secure housing, and connects friends through activities and volunteer opportunities. KTL collected donations for Jubilee at our July event, and we look forward to finding other ways to support this great organization throughout the rest of the year.
What’s coming up next for the KTown Ladies? This month, we’ll cool off from the summer heat with a Sip ‘n Dip pool party on August 8 at 2pm at a private home in Town, graciously hosted by one of our members. Looking forward to September, KTL is planning to gather for a Sip ‘n Shop at Howard Avenue boutique and KTown gem SW7. On September 8 at 6:30pm, we’ll meet at SW7 to share some drinks and enjoy the shop’s fantastic selection of gifts, contemporary housewares, art and more. (Check out our website – listed below – to see if we still have space to join us at these events!)
Once summer turns to fall, KTL will once again help sponsor Kensington’s annual Trash to Treasure Day. Start gathering up your things that you no longer use but someone else will love for a neighborhood-wide yard sale on September 25 starting at 9am, with refreshments and socializing to follow at one of the KTL’s favorite homes.
Stay tuned each month for more information on upcoming events from the KTown Ladies! We are excited to have a monthly feature column in Kensington Neighbors magazine, where readers will be able to keep up-to-date on KTL happenings on an ongoing basis. Please follow us on Facebook @KTownLadiesGuild and on Instagram @ktownladies, check out our new website at www.ktownladies.org, and reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any comments or questions.
That’s all from the KTown Ladies ‘til next month, Kensington Neighbors!
